Victorian STERLING silver LOVE TOKEN brooch made from Gothic 'One florin' coin. Initials "smp", "pms", "mps", "spm", "msp", or "psm".

Romantic, sentimental, love token monogram brooch made from a "Gothic" one florin coin. Engraved and enamelled to the front with three intwined initials "SMP", "PMS", "MPS", "SPM", "MSP", or "PSM".
The stylised initials are outlined in black enamel and surrounded by a halo of minute enamel ivy leaves. The enamel work is crisp and expertly done and is in outstanding condition.
The "Gothic" type British one florin (two shillings or one tenth of a pound) coin was issued between 1851 and 1887. The brooch retains the coin's original milled edge. To the back of the brooch you can see the original coin engraving: four crowned shields forming a cross around a rose, the shields bear the arms of England top and bottom, Scotland at right, Ireland at left; between shields under arched canopy, two roses, a thistle and a shamrock. In Gothic letters: One florin; one tenth of a pound.
Handmade C clasp to back in great working order.
Approximate measurements: 3cm diameter x 2mm thickness; 11.3g.
